F300-UK
F300 Regulations 2024
F300.1 Background and aims
F300 is a traveling IKR senior sprint class for four stroke powered karts. Typical engines used in this class are Aixro, Biland, Swissauto, Saetta, Vampire, EcoMoto and V-Twin. F300 aims to provide a fun, friendly, safe and competitive environment to race within. F300 is a club, run by club members, for the members.
F300.2 General
Although not governed by Motorsport UK, F300 fully embraces the “Race with Respect '' code of conduct and uses the Motorsport UK Yearbook (hereafter referred to as MSUKYB) as a guide to kart preparation and safety standards. Whilst it is appreciated that some regulations within the MSUKYB may not be applicable, or indeed may not be possible for a specific engine to comply with, it is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that their safety, or that of any other person either on or off circuit, is not compromised by virtue of any MSUKYB regulation that they choose not comply with. If anybody deems any regulation specified by F300, MSUKYB or the host circuit to compromise safety in any way they should raise it immediately with all concerned and refrain from entering any events until the problem is resolved.
In choosing to enter an F300 event, all participants and their dependents must accept the inherent hazards involved in karting. With the best will in the world, all risks posed by these hazards cannot be eliminated. Participants should take personal responsibility to reduce risk to a level that they can accept and immediately cease participation should an unacceptable level of risk arise during an event. In this situation, it is the participant’s responsibility to immediately raise their concern with the host circuit and all F300 competitors in order that suitable control measures can be put in place to reduce the risk to an acceptable level.
No staff, services or equipment will be provided by F300. F300 purely exists to suggest a calendar of events that drivers can enjoy together in a championship format. Placing a venue on the F300 calendar does not guarantee that it is suitable for your kart and your driving ability. Competitors should satisfy themselves that the venue and organisation provided by the host circuit is suitable before choosing to enter.
F300.3 Driving standards and general conduct
Competitors should always drive within their own ability and prioritise their safety and that of those around them.
Persistent poor driving standards or any form of unacceptable behaviour (MSUKYB) will not be tolerated on the circuit, in the paddock, or on any other forum. Competitors are reminded that they are also responsible for the conduct of their friends/family/mechanic etc. In exceptional circumstances,
failure to comply will result in expulsion from the club with a pro-rata refund of any membership fee paid.
F300.4 Supplementary regulations
It is the competitor’s responsibility to make themselves aware of, and comply with all regulations specified by the host circuit. The exact detail and requirements may vary slightly from circuit to circuit. As a general guide, if you comply with both F300 and MSUKYB Regulations you are likely to meet any circuit specific requirements.
F300.5 Licences and medicals
Being an Independent Kart Racing (IKR) club, there is no requirement for an ARKS Test, Motorsport UK licence or medical certificate. Drivers must however ensure that they are competent to drive their chosen kart and fully understand all flag and light signals listed in MSUKYB Reg Q15 and U6, along with all other standard operating and safety procedures used in kart racing. Drivers must also ensure they are fit and healthy to participate. Any driver who knows of a reason why they may not be deemed medically fit to participate must seek relevant professional advice before participating.
F300.6 Minimum Age
The minimum age for competitors is 18 years.
F300.7 Club membership and fees
All competitors must be a registered F300 club member before entering a F300 championship round. Full annual membership: £50
This will be completed via alpha timing. The link will be available on the F300 facebook page and upon request via email.
Club membership fees will only be used for genuine F300 expenses. The main expense will be end-of-season championship trophies and events. Examples of other genuine expenses may include additional trophies at a championship round where the host circuit does not provide a full quota of trophies, F300 promotional material and engine eligibility seals.
F300.8 Race entry
All race entry forms, entry fees and signing on should be with the host circuit or series directly. F300 may liaise between club members and the circuit to make things easier or speed up the process but the contract and payment is between the competitor and the circuit/series directly. Competitors should ensure they are able to comply with any circuit specific safety requirements or supplementary regulations before entering. Race start grids will be based on entries received by the entry closing date. Late entries will be accepted whenever possible, but the grids will not be recalculated. Late entries will be added to the back of the published grid in each heat.
F300.9 Race format
The preferred race format will be 3 random grid heats followed by a final, however if the host circuit is unable to provide this then it may be a different format dictated by them. Inexperienced drivers, or any other driver, may elect to start further back or from the back of the grid if they feel that would reduce the risk of an incident caused by starting amongst faster or more experienced competitors, or for any other reason. This request should ideally be made before midday on the Wednesday preceding the event.
Races will have a rolling start.
F300.10 Championship dates
If a championship round is cancelled, for whatever reason, it may be replaced with a round at another venue on the same date and still counted as part of the championship. If this is not possible, a replacement round may be scheduled on a different date but will not score championship points unless 100% of eligible voters choose to make it do so. Eligible voters are anyone who has registered for the championship and has competed in at least 1 championship round.
Round Date Venue
1 13th & 14th April Fulbeck
2 11th & 12th May Lydd
3 1st & 2nd June Rowrah
4 14th July Bayford Meadows
5 3rd & 4th August Llandow
6 14th & 15th September Clay Pigeon 7 5th & 6th October Ellough Park
8 26th & 27th October Mansell Raceway
F300.11 Championship points & trophies
Irrespective of the race format, there will be 180 points awarded to a driver who wins all the heats and the final of any championship round (see Appendix A for point allocation tables). In any championship year with 6 or more point scoring rounds, each competitor will drop their lowest scoring round (which may be zero points). All other rounds will count towards the final championship positions. In the event of a points tie, the position will be decided in favour of the competitor with the most first place finishes in the finals. If this still results in a tie then successively descending place finishes in the finals will be used in the same way until the tie is separated. If this still results in a tie then the position will be decided in favour of the competitor who scored the most points in the final of the most recent championship round in which either, or both competitors, scored in the final. Trophies will be presented to the top 3 podium positions at each F300 championship round.
F300.12 Safety equipment
Safety equipment is an important control measure, designed to reduce the risk of harm to a competitor from the known hazards inherent in kart racing. It is encouraged that racewear and safety equipment should be of the best quality and highest standard available. In any event, it must meet the standard required by the host circuit and should preferably comply with MSUKYB Reg U13.
F300.13 Weight
All weight categories compete in the same race, for the same points and trophies. The aim of this regulation is to reduce the disadvantage suffered by heavier drivers and allow drivers of different weights, but similar abilities, to lap safely together at a similar pace. Competitors should ideally stay in the category that they naturally fall into, however if they are able to add ballast safely as per MSUKYB Reg U17.29 they may move to the next weight category up (it is not permissible to ballast up any further). Ballast may not be attached to bodywork as per MSUKYB Reg U17.1.4. A competitor may change categories if their weight changes during the season. If it should be found that any weight category is unfairly advantaged, or disadvantaged, then this rule may be changed at any point during the season with effect from the next championship round.
Detailed below are the weight categories available and the corresponding engine specs. An F300 sticker must be displayed clearly on the nassau panel denoting the weight category entered.
Minimum weights are for the driver (complete with clothing & safety equipment), kart, fuel and any personal ballast carried. Weights will be measured in Parc Ferme at the end of the race using the scales provided by the host circuit. It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure they meet the minimum weight on the scales provided.
There is no leniency in the minimum weights. Failure to meet the minimum weight will result in the driver being excluded from that race. Championship points and trophies, where applicable, will be awarded based on the amended result.
Minimum 162kg:
1. Aixro with Single 20mm carb, 12mm inlet restrictor, XR30 10,000rpm limited PVL or IDM.
2. Biland with standard homologated twin 22mm Dellorto carbs, 21mm i.d. aluminium inlet manifold, 22mm i.d./25mm o.d. exhaust manifold, 250cc capacity , minimum cylinder head height of 93.75mm and standard PVL ignition.
3. EcoMoto with maximum 250cc capacity, standard 32mm CVK Keihin carb, standard exhaust manifold and standard PVL ignition.
Minimum 174kg:
1. Aixro or Saetta with 12mm inlet restrictor. 2. Biland with maximum 250cc capacity.
3. Any other ‘open’ engine.
Minimum 190kg:
1. Aixro or Saetta with 14mm inlet restrictor. 2. Biland with a maximum 280cc capacity.
3. Any other ‘open’ engine.
4. V-twin engined karts (please reg F300.21.1)
F300.14 Rotary Restrictors
The top 3 rotary engines at the end of the final of each race meeting will be expected to present their secondary port restrictors for a compliance check.
This will be done by attempting to pass either a 12.25mm or 14.25mm (depending on weight class) drill bit through the restrictor. If it successfully passes through then the competitor will be excluded from the meeting and will sacrifice all points.
We as organisers also reserve the right to randomly check any other competitors' restrictor for compliance. Failure or refusal to do so will also result in exclusion from the meeting for non compliance.
F300.15 Brakes
In all weight categories, a hydraulic disc brake must operate on the rear axle only as per MSUKYB Reg U16.10. Front brakes may remain fitted to the kart but must not be operational and their presence must in no way interfere with the operation of the rear brake.
F300.16 Number Plate
Any competitor wishing to warn others that they are a novice driver should have black number plates with white numbers.
All other karts must have red number plates with yellow numbers.
The following numbers are reserved and are re-allocated each season, although qualifying competitors may choose not to use them:
0 – ‘O’ Plate (if event held)
1, 2 & 3 – Previous season’s 1st, 2nd & 3rd championship positions
Race numbers must be unique on the grid. Competitors will be given priority to keep their previous season’s number before any new competitors are issued a number. At events where F160 & F300 share a grid and a duplicate number arises it will be necessary for one of the drivers to change their number for that event. F160 competitors who held that number at the start of the 2018 season will
be given priority to keep the number. Beyond that, whichever competitor used the number first will be given priority.
F300.17 Bodywork
Bodywork must be fitted in compliance with the dimensions specified in MSUKYB Section U, Appendix 1, Drawing 6.
F300.18 Transponder
A transponder must be fitted to the seat back. It should be no further than 30cm from, and have an unobscured view of the track surface. Compatible transponders are MyLaps X2, AMB Tranx 160 and MyLaps TR2.
F300.19 Tyres
All competitors must use the Maxxis Super Sport.
All drivers may use a maximum of 5 sets for the season.
This tyre must be purchased from Dartford Karting only and must have barcodes present so they can be recorded. These will be recorded at the beginning of every event. Any driver found to be racing with a non-compliant tyre will be excluded from that session.
Slick tyre condition will be continuously monitored throughout the season and the organisers may elect to allow the purchase of an extra set should degradation be higher than expected. This would be confirmed in writing via a regulatory update.
Usage restrictions apply to race sessions only. Competitors may use any tyres of their choice during practice sessions.
Any make/model of wet tyre may be used but must have a minimum of 2mm tread depth at the start of a race as per MSUKYB Reg U16.9.4.
There is no limit to the amount of sets of wets that can be used in a meeting or a season.
The heating or chemical treatment of tyres is prohibited as per MSUKYB Reg U16.9.6 The hosting circuit may deem any part of an event to be ‘dry’, ‘open’ or ‘wet’ as per MSUKYB Reg U12.3, however it is always the competitor’s responsibility to decide whether it is safe to continue to race in bad or unusual conditions.
F300.20 Fuel
Fuel must be pump fuel as per MSUKYB Reg U16.17, however there is no requirement for a minimum fuel quantity to allow for fuel sampling as per MSUKYB Reg U16.18.
F300.21 Engine
Engines must be four stroke or rotary with a maximum capacity of 300cc, with the exception of karts using an industrial based V-Twin engine (please see F300.21.1).
Contrary to MSUKYB Reg U18.5.3, the starter battery may also be fitted on the same side of
the chassis as the engine.
Aixro/Saetta inlet restrictor:
Aixro/Saetta engines must be fitted with either a 12mm or 14mm inlet restrictor depending on weight category. The inlet restrictor of the relevant size for the weight category must be provided by the competitor. Restrictors will be checked as per regulation
F300.14. A
competitor may register more than one size of inlet restrictor but must remain in the same weight category for the duration of any individual championship round.
14mm restrictors can be made by drilling out a 12mm restrictor but care must be taken
to ensure the hole is accurately sized and drilled clean and straight.
Aixro exhaust:
Aixro engines must be fitted with a secondary exhaust silencer. This can either be the factory auxiliary silencer Part number: 2290890. Or another secondary silencer providing it meets safety and noise standards.
F300.21.1 V-Twin Engines
Only industrial based engines can be used to race. Examples are as follows:- Honda, Kohler, Briggs and Stratton, Lifan, Loncin.
The following Billet parts are allowed to be fitted: Conrods, Flywheels, Rocker Covers and Camshafts.
Engine blocks, side covers and cylinder heads must remain made of standard manufacturers materials.
Engines must remain naturally aspirated. The use of turbochargers and superchargers is strictly prohibited.
In the case of the Honda GX620 V-Twin they may rev to no higher than 7500rpm. A breach of this will result in exclusion from that session.
F300.22 Transmission
The rear axle must be direct drive from the engine.
A fully enclosed chain guard must be fitted as per MSUKYB Reg U18.8.5. Contrary to MSUKYB Reg U18.8.8, karts may use larger than 219 pitch chains.
F300.23 Sound Level
Please understand that sound limits are a major concern for all race circuits and an individual’s failure to comply could jeopardise F300’s welcome at that circuit, and others in the future. Individual rounds may be subject to a lower sound level, specified by the circuit, requiring the fitment of additional silencing. Any such round will be clearly marked in Reg F300.11. It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate silencing to comply prior to starting their engine at the circuit.
At all other rounds, sound levels will be monitored using F300’s own decibel meter, with the microphone set at a height of 1.5m ±0.1m. Any kart exceeding 102 dBA, but remaining below the sound limit defined in MSUKYB Reg 16.16.10, will be advised of their excess noise violation and asked to ensure they reduce below 102 dBA before being allowed to participate in any future F300 round. If a competitor finds they are unable to comply with the F300 limit, they will be given a prorate refund of any membership fee paid. Any kart found by the circuit to be exceeding the sound limit defined in MSUKYB Reg 16.16.10 will be excluded immediately from that event. Contrary to MSUKYB Reg U16.16.4, intake silencers are not required.
